Hotel CAMANA

My friend Toni, who I have known for a long time, explained to me one day that he was moving to the Safiental in Switzerland. He wants to convert an old schoolhouse into a lodge in order to offer guests a perfect base for ski and snowshoe tours in winter.

Safiental? Isn’t that terribly lonely? I’ve been there for mountain guiding before and had the impression that this valley had been forgotten by the world. I also knew it, because Toni had been working there as a shepherd for some time and processed the milk from up to 100 cows into cheese on a mountain pasture called Grossalp. The name of the lodge: „Hotel Camana“. Based on the legendary Eagles song „Hotel California“, which he probably played often enough during his time as a banjo player.

A few years have passed since I found out this news. Together with his partner, Toni has managed to only serve his visitors their own products or use them as cooking ingredients. The meat comes from the alpine pasture, as do the many homemade cheeses. What could be nicer than sitting in the hot tub or sauna after a perfect ski tour, looking at the ski tracks again and looking forward to home-brewed beer.

It’s high time to pay Toni a visit…
